Spacer Dampers Introduction

The number of spacer dampers should be efficiently distributed throughout the spans at approved unequal intervals not exceeding 80m and not less than 2m away from any mid-span joint or repair sleeve so that the following requirements are met.

  1. Sub-conductor contacts under normal service conditions are excluded.

  2. The conductor bundle has satisfactory torsional stability.

  3. Damage to sub-conductors and of spacers themselves by short-circuit is excluded.

All bolt heads are kept inside the clamp body and the shape of the clamp provides a large radius around the conductor to guarantee a corona-free level higher than that of the conductor bundle.

The body and keepers are made of aluminum alloy. Buffer is DEMP. The clamper is an elastomer (DEMP). The other parts are hot-dip galvanized steel.

Twin spacer

Rigid spacer

Additional to the vibration dampers, phase conductors are fitted with spacer dampers to maintain the required spacing between the sub-conductors, under all working conditions and to protect the conductors against vibrations. Similarly, jumper loops are fitted with rigid spacers to maintain the required spacing between sub=condctors.
