IPC Clamp Description

The connectors are insulated and suitable for the use of live or dead lines. The insulation piercing connectors have components that are liable to be lost during installation. The housing is made entirely of mechanical sound and weather-resistant plastic insulation material. The housing is an integral part of the connector. The bolts include an over-torque shear head made of suitable material that allows a clamping torque in conformity with the recommendation of Tronco Electric, without the need for any special tool.

The IPC clamps are absolutely necessary so that none of the energized parts of the connector can be reached directly by the operator during connector installation. Insulation-piercing connectors are dielectrically waterproofed in the same manner as the relevant cable. The connectors can withstand 6 kV while immersed under water (30 cm depth) for 1 minute. The number and the length of the teeth are adequate enough to penetrate the relevant bundled conductor insulation to establish proper contact without any contact resistance and without the need to strip the bundled conductor insulation. 

To achieve the required water-tightness a special rubber seal is provided around the teeth of the present connector.

The bolt washers are corrosion-resistant type. The current rating of the connectors is in accordance with the rating of the maximum cross-section admissible by the connector. The connector is an insulation piercing type on main and tap conductors. The tightening is simultaneous on the main and tap.
